Fall 2024 New College Student Volunteers

Duke University Hospital

Please note, there will be a limited number of college student volunteer opportunities for the Fall 2024 session. See below for the process.

Getting Started – Mandatory Orientation

  • All new volunteers must attend MANDATORY hospital orientation on Sunday, August 25, 2024 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm if they are accepted into a volunteer program.
  • If you cannot attend this mandatory orientation, you cannot volunteer in the fall.
  • Please do not continue with the application process.
  • Alternative orientation dates will not be provided.

Volunteer Commitment

  • Rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors may apply to volunteer for the fall 2024 semester.  At this time, we are not accepting incoming freshman for fall 2024 semester. Incoming freshman may apply to volunteer for the spring 2025 semester. The fall 2024 volunteer semester will begin on Sunday, August 25, 2024 and run for 15 weeks ending December 6, 2024.
  • Volunteers are required to volunteer at least 30 hours during the fall 2024 semester and volunteer for at least 2 academic semesters.
  • Volunteers will not be required to volunteer on holidays/breaks (Labor Day, fall break, Thanksgiving break) but may volunteer if they are staying on campus.

Instructions:

  • Please complete the following 4 steps below BEFORE you leave campus for the summer or no later than July 1, 2024.
  • You are eligible to be seen at Student Health to complete any requirements as long as you have paid the health fee.
    • If you are not taking classes this summer, the spring health fee period ends on May 17, 2024 so you can only be seen by Student Health before this date.  If you miss the May 17 deadline, you will need to obtain any missing requirements outside of Student Health and submit the documentation to bluehealthclearance@duke.edu by the July 1, 2024 deadline.
    • If you are taking classes during the summer 1 session, the summer health fee begin on May 13, 2024 and you can be seen by Student Health before the July 1, 2024 deadline.
  • If Volunteer Services does not receive your health clearance by August 1, 2024, you will not be able to volunteer during the fall semester and you may reapply for the spring 2025 semester.
