Become a Volunteer
Our generous volunteers are a key part of our mission to advance health care in our community. Adult men and women give thousands of hours assisting patients, their families, and staff members, and help in nearly all Duke Health Lake Norman Hospital departments.
While we work with new volunteers to help you find the most fulfilling opportunity, we also work hard to ensure the position uses your talents and fits your schedule. In addition to donating their time, volunteers raise funds for hospital projects. In past years, our volunteers have donated new furniture for the chapel, wheelchairs, CPR mannequins, and an activity table for young visitors.
Opportunities and Positions
Hospital Volunteers
Dedicated volunteers are involved throughout Duke Health Lake Norman Hospital, including in the gift shop, information desks, cafeteria, and patient areas. Volunteer positions are available in the morning, afternoon, evening, weekends, and holidays.

Departmental Volunteers
Departmental volunteers provide direct non-medical patient care and family and staff support in areas such as medical/surgical and the emergency department. Whether transporting patients or serving complimentary beverages to family members waiting with patients, the volunteers are a helpful, caring resource that helps everyone at Duke Health Lake Norman feel at home.

Volunteer Requirements
Adult volunteers must download and complete a volunteer application (PDF 354 KB) with two verifiable references and email as an attachment to Lorie Medlar at lorie.medlar@duke.edu
Each applicant must complete an interview, background check, and health clearance before they can begin work.
