Our Volunteer Programs

Duke Raleigh offers volunteer opportunities for individuals with different skill levels. To learn about available positions, requirements, and the application process, choose the program that best fits you:

Volunteer Application & Onboarding Schedule (College Volunteers)

Duke Raleigh Hospital offers volunteer opportunities for college students and community adults. Review the application deadlines and onboarding dates below to determine which volunteer cycle is right for you.

  • Application deadline: Friday, August 7, 2026
  • Information session: Tuesday, August 11, 2026 | 5–6 p.m.
  • Mandatory orientation: Tuesday, August 25, 2026 | 5–7 p.m.
  • Department training: Week of September 7–11, 2026

  • Application deadline: Friday, December 18, 2026
  • Information session: Tuesday, January 5, 2027 | 5–6 p.m.
  • Mandatory orientation: Tuesday, January 19, 2027 | 5–7 p.m.
  • Department training: Week of February 2–5, 2027

  • Application deadline: Friday, March 26, 2027
  • Information session: April 2027
  • Mandatory orientation: April 2027
  • Department training: Late April–early May 2027

Volunteer Application & Onboarding Schedule (Community Adult Volunteers)

  • Application deadline: Friday, August 14, 2026
  • Information session: Tuesday, August 18, 2026 | 5–6 p.m.
  • Mandatory orientation: Tuesday, September 1, 2026 | 5–7 p.m.
  • Department training: Week of September 7–11, 2026

  • Application deadline: Friday, January 8, 2027
  • Information session: Tuesday, January 12, 2027 | 5–6 p.m.
  • Mandatory orientation: Tuesday, January 26, 2027 | 5–7 p.m.
  • Department training: Week of February 2–5, 2027

Important Information

  • Attendance at the information session is required before Hospital Orientation.
  • Mandatory Orientation must be completed before Department Training.
  • Department Training dates may vary based on volunteer placement and department availability.
  • Additional onboarding requirements include Employee Health clearance, a background check and required learning modules.
  • Volunteer applications must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. on the application deadline to be considered for that onboarding cycle.
  • Applications received after the deadline or incomplete applications will be reviewed for the next available onboarding session, subject to program availability.
