Why Choose Duke

Recognized Among the Best Maternity Hospitals in the U.S.

Duke University Hospital and Duke Regional Hospital are recognized among the best hospitals for maternity care by U.S. News & World Report for 2026. The recognition acknowledges our low rates of C-sections in people at low risk for pregnancy complications and other factors.

A Dedicated Team of Specialists

In addition to obstetricians-gynecologists, our care team of specialists includes gynecologic surgeons, urogynecologists, reproductive endocrinologists, nurses, certified midwives, genetic counselors, nutritionists, pain management specialists, and physical therapists.

Reproductive Health Services for All

Duke's obstetrics and gynecology teams collaborate with our specialists in gender medicine to offer comprehensive care and resources, and support for all ages. We offer gender-affirming care for LGBTQ+ patients, including family planning, bleeding management, and contraception. We also provide pregnancy care, which includes high-risk obstetric care. Our team of experts is trained to provide high-quality, compassionate care to individuals who are considering transitioning, going through the process, or have already completed their transition and require ongoing care.

LGBTQ+ Healthcare Equality Leaders

All Duke hospitals are recognized as LGBTQ Healthcare Equality Leaders by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation and received perfect scores across areas of patient-centered care, support services, and inclusive health insurance policies for LGBTQ patients.

Improving Maternal Health

Maternal health is important for everyone. But, as noted by the CDC, Black people experience more life-threatening problems during pregnancy and are three times more likely to die during childbirth than white people. Many of those deaths are due to variations in quality health care and underlying chronic conditions, and are preventable. Duke Health is working to overcome these issues.
