Conceiving and Pregnancy Care

Routine Pregnancy Care
Duke obstetricians and OB specialists provide prenatal care to women who deliver their babies at Duke University Hospital and Duke Regional Hospital. If you choose Duke Women's Health Heritage in Wake Forest or Blue Ridge OB-GYN Associates in Raleigh, you can deliver your baby at WakeMed North Family Health & Women's Hospital.

High-Risk Pregnancy Care
Our obstetricians manage the most complex and high-risk pregnancies. In addition to caring for pregnant women with medical conditions, our perinatologists manage high-risk pregnancies in women carrying multiples (twins, triplets, and more), as well as women with placenta previa or placental implantation defects, conditions that involve abnormal placement or attachment of the placenta that can lead to significant complications.

This program replaces routine individual visits with group visits of eight to 12 pregnant women who are due at about the same time. The two-hour visits include a one-on-one assessment with the provider, group sharing, and discussions. Group sessions include a facilitated discussion of pregnancy, birth, and newborn care as well as overall health, stress management, and more.

Fertility: Help for Women Who Want to Conceive
We understand that infertility can be a challenging time and may heighten stress and anxiety, which can lead to physical or emotional turmoil. We use the latest diagnostic and imaging tests to determine the cause of your infertility and correct it with appropriate treatment options.

Preterm Labor and Preterm Birth Prevention
Pregnant women at risk for preterm birth benefit from the expert care provided by Duke perinatologists. We offer personalized preconception counseling and comprehensive prenatal care that may include medical or surgical interventions intended to prevent preterm birth.

Gynecologic Care

Nonsurgical Options
Our goal is to spare your reproductive organs and as much healthy tissue as possible. We offer several nonsurgical therapies to preserve your reproductive organs and fertility. We will resort to hysterectomy usually as a last resort.

Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery Options
Our OB-GYN surgeons use minimally invasive and robotic surgery techniques, which require smaller incisions. This results in less pain, faster recoveries, and fewer complications. Our urogynecology team has pioneered some of the most effective minimally invasive options used today for pelvic organ prolapse.
