Prepare for Your Video Visit

Telehealth appointments, or virtual visits, are a safe, convenient way to receive medical care from your provider from the comfort of your home. While you must have an internet connection and a Duke MyChart account, you do not need to be computer- or tech-savvy.

If this is your first experience with a virtual visit, we ask that you review the information on this page before your appointment so you will be prepared for the visit when it takes place. It will also help you troubleshoot common problems that can occur.

Need Help Before Your Visit?

These step-by-step instructions walk you through the sign-on process. If you want to speak to someone, we recommend calling two or three days before your visit. You can call 919-684-1598 from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday to Friday. If you need help the day of your telehealth appointment, please call 30 minutes prior to the visit.

You Must Have a Duke MyChart Account

If you don’t have a Duke MyChart account, here’s how to sign up:

Request an Account
Call 919-620-4555 or 800-782-6945 to request an account, or ask your Duke Health provider at your next in-person appointment. You can also complete this online form to begin the account creation process.

Obtain an Activation Code
No matter how you request your account, you will be given an activation code. You'll need it to complete the account creation process on this page.

Complete Two-Step Verification to Protect Your Personal Information

Two-step verification provides extra security when logging into MyChart  It uses a second verification of your identity to make sure the device you're using belongs to you.

Complete eCheck-In Up to Five Days Before Your Visit

Please complete the eCheck-in process one to five days before your virtual visit. This way you can immediately join your provider when your appointment begins.

Treat Your Virtual Visit as You Would an In-Person Visit

We ask that you come to your video visit the same way you would come to an in-person clinic appointment with your provider. That means wearing appropriate street clothes and holding your video visit in a quiet space with no distractions. This will allow you and your provider to give each other your undivided attention. Your ability to clearly communicate any symptoms and health issues will help us understand your needs.

Let Us Know If You Need an Interpreter

Interpreters are available for virtual visits on an as-needed basis. If you need an interpreter, please let your provider know before your visit. They will make sure one is available for you at the time of the virtual visit.
