Find the Cause of Your Back or Neck Pain
During your first appointment, the physiatrists at Piedmont Spine Specialists will perform a comprehensive spinal exam and use the latest imaging techniques to diagnose the cause and location of your back pain. Our spine specialists will work with you to determine a plan of care that meets your individualized needs.
Nonsurgical Treatments for Chronic Back Pain
Our patients are always evaluated to see whether back pain can be addressed using nonsurgical treatments options. Nonsurgical treatments for back pain include:
- Facet joint injections
- Sacroiliac joint injections
- Epidural steroid injections
- Targeted nerve blocks
Referral to Duke Back and Spine Surgeons
If your pain does not improve with conservative treatments, or if you are diagnosed with a condition that requires surgery, you may be referred to a back or spinal surgeon. Duke’s spine surgeons perform the full range of spine surgery options, from disc replacement to relieve pain and swelling, to complex reconstructive surgeries for scoliosis, and procedures to remove delicate spinal cancer lesions. Whenever possible, our spine surgeons use minimally invasive surgical techniques, so you benefit from faster recoveries, fewer complications and less pain.
Need an Orthopaedic Doctor Right Away?
If you need to see an orthopaedic provider fast due to pain or injury, many of our clinics have same-day or next-day appointments. Or, visit one of our orthopedic urgent care centers. Walk-ins are welcome.

Duke Health contracts with most major health insurance carriers and transplant networks, including the ones listed below. Before scheduling your appointment, we strongly recommend you contact your insurance company to verify that the Duke Health location or provider you plan to visit is included in your network. Your insurance company will also be able to inform you of any copayments, co–insurance, or deductibles that will be your responsibility. If you proceed in scheduling an appointment and your health insurance benefits do not participate with Duke, your out of pocket liability may be higher.
