Duke Children's Health Center Neonatal Clinic
Neonatal specialists at Duke Children's Health Center Neonatal Clinic, also called the Special Infant Care Clinic (SICC), see infants and toddlers up to age three who were previously hospitalized and are at risk for slow growth and developmental delays. Our staff include pediatricians who are specifically trained in caring for high-risk infants, a nurse practitioner and clinic nurse, a child psychologist, physical therapist, occupational therapist, speech-language therapist, nutritionist, and social worker. We also coordinate with and can refer your child to other subspecialists, community providers, and support organizations as needed.

Our Providers
Services
Our goal is to help your child reach important growth and development milestones. We offer:
- Chronic lung disease management (oxygen therapy, diuretic medication management, breathing treatments)
- Feeding support (nasogastric tubes, gastrostomies, gastroesophageal reflux disease, and sensory feeding difficulties)
- Nutrition and growth assessments
- Muscle tone, motor skill, and coordination evaluations, and referral to physical and occupational therapy
- Feeding and language evaluation, and referral to speech-language therapy for communication and swallowing concerns
- Neurodevelopmental testing by our child psychologist to assess your child's developmental strengths and areas of delay
Complex Care Coordination
We see children who are at high risk of feeding and growth difficulties or development delays due to one or more of the following conditions:
- Premature birth
- Neonatal encephalopathy or brain injury
- Congenital infections
- Congenital conditions, such as congenital diaphragmatic hernia, omphalocele, gastroschisis, genetic conditions, etc.
- Need for prolonged mechanical ventilation or extracorporeal metabolic oxygenation (ECMO)
- Neonatal abstinence syndrome
- Other conditions

Duke Health contracts with most major health insurance carriers and transplant networks, including the ones listed below. Before scheduling your appointment, we strongly recommend you contact your insurance company to verify that the Duke Health location or provider you plan to visit is included in your network. Your insurance company will also be able to inform you of any co-payments, co–insurances, or deductibles that will be your responsibility. If you proceed in scheduling an appointment and your health insurance benefits do not participate with Duke, your out of pocket liability may be higher. Duke Hospital Garage:
- Duke Hospital parking garage is located across Erwin Road from Duke University Hospital. Vehicles enter one block north, at 2223 Elba Street. The garage is within walking distance from the hospital entrance.
- Visitors may take a secure, well-lighted, and climate-controlled walkway under Erwin Road. To reach the walkway, take a parking garage elevator down to Level RT (for "tunnel") and follow the signs to Duke University Hospital or Duke Children’s Hospital & Health Center. This parking garage is most convenient for patients and visitors who intend to use the Erwin Road hospital entrance, or visit Duke University Hospital or Duke Children's Hospital & Health Center.
- Cost: $2 per hour or a maximum of $12 per day.
Duke Medicine Circle Parking Garage:
- Located at 302 Trent Drive and features a climate-controlled, enclosed walkway to Duke Clinic. A free shuttle is just outside the garage to escort you to the Duke Medicine Pavilion entrance. This parking garage is most convenient for patients and visitors going to the Duke Medicine Pavilion, Duke Cancer Center, and Duke Clinic.
- Cost: $2 per hour or a maximum of $12 per day.
Additional Parking Information:
- Parking for oversized vehicles is adjacent to the Duke University Hospital parking deck. To obtain a pass for an oversized vehicle, call 919-684-7275.
- Valet parking is also available at the entrance to Duke Clinic, Monday - Friday from 7:00 am - 6:00 pm for $14 per visit.
- One-use parking passes ($7 each) and five-use parking passes ($35 each) are available for patients visiting Duke for an appointment, patients in the hospital, and visitors of patients admitted to Duke University Hospital.
- To purchase discounted parking passes, visit an information desk at Duke Central Tower, Duke Medicine Pavilion, the Duke University Hospital entrance, Duke Cancer Center, or Duke Clinic (1st floor main lobby) to obtain a Discounted Parking Authorization Form. You can purchase passes in the parking garage or parking office. Parking passes expire after one year.

Public Transportation
Plan your trip to Duke Children's Health Center Neonatal Clinic through GoDurham bus routes 6 and 11A/11B or GoTriangle bus routes 400, 405, DRX, and ODX. The closest bus stops are Duke Hospital and Fulton St at VA Hospital.
