About Me
My research and clinical focus is cerebrovascular disease, specifically the treatment of brain aneurysms, brain arteriovenous malformations, carotid disease, Moya-moya and stroke. I also treat patients with brain tumors and spine issues. In general, I like to analyze complex problems and propose simple solutions. In neurosurgery, typically, the simplest solution is the safest. Your safety and best possible treatment is my number one priority. More often than not, you may be surprised to learn that after thorough analysis of all the information, you may not need treatment, but instead careful observation. If treatment is indicated, I provide a comprehensive spectrum of care including radiosurgery, minimally invasive treatment in the cathlab, and open surgery. At Duke, I love to be able to offer these services as a member of a friendly and fabulous team. In addition, I am proud to be able to provide the newest clinical treatment options available. My ultimate goal is to further improve patient experience and outcomes. My hobbies are playing the piano, hiking, skiing and gardening, which I enjoy together with my wife and four children.

Ratings and Reviews
The ratings and reviews are based on patient responses to the overall provider rating question from the survey. The question reads: “Using any number from 0 to 10, where 0 is the worst provider possible and 10 is the best provider possible, what number would you use to rate this provider?” Responses are converted to a 5-point rating system and applied consistently to all providers. Learn more about our survey process. Patients who see some types of providers receive a different version of the patient satisfaction survey. Those results are not available on DukeHealth.org.

Clinical Focus and Research
My research aims to advance treatment for ischemic stroke, brain aneurysm, and arteriovenous malformations. Using intravital video microscopy, I have been able to investigate the pathophysiology of ischemic stroke. In 2009, we had initial clinical success in the experimental use of stents in the treatment of acute stroke. Today, stents called "stent retrievers" have dramatically changed our field. Since 2015, stroke catheter interventions have become the standard of care. Other recently designed stents divert the blood flow away from brain aneurysms and make a cure possible even for giant aneurysms through a needle stick in the groin.

Dr. Hauck has been welcoming and informative from the very first time we met. He is an expert and I trust him completely. Alicia is also welcoming and very detailed in explaining my scans. It has been a very pleasant and calm experience and I am grateful to be under Dr. Hauck’s and Alicia’s care.
It’s so helpful in a difficult situation to have a doctor I trust to give me the best care available.
Dr. Hauck clearly explained why his interpretation of my CT scan differed from the tech’s preliminary interpretation. He showed me the images and patiently answered all my questions.
I think that Dr. Erik HAUCK, MD is the best.
Dr Hauck was the best!!! There aren't enough words or gratitude to express the humanness he exhibits in the care and connections he provided to me as a patient
What I had done was no small task. Dr. Hauck has been on this journey with me for over 4 years. He was always supportive, and I believe he gave me the best advice that he could. At no time did I feel pressured into a decision. He always took the time to answer my questions no matter how many I had or how long it took. He provided great advice and was always able to explain things in a way that my wife and I coul... Show More
Love Dr. Hauck and his team.
Dr. Hauck has always taken his time and I have never felt rushed during any visit with him.
