About the Duke Sports Sciences Institute
The James R. Urbaniak, MD, Sports Sciences Institute has a 70-year history of national leadership treating active individuals, from professional athletes to people who want to stay healthy and fit. Whether you have a sprained ankle, a shoulder injury, or a concussion, our doctors, surgeons, physical therapists, and others offer the best care. We treat people of all levels who want to be more active than their medical conditions allow.

Our facility is staffed by teams of sports medicine experts including orthopaedic surgeons, sports medicine doctors, physical therapists, and more.
Our modern facility includes spacious waiting and exam rooms; separate areas for X-rays, casting, and orthotic fittings; and a human performance clinic and research lab (the K-Lab).
