About Me
I am a fellowship-trained minimally invasive gastrointestinal surgeon and general surgeon. I treat patients who experience digestive issues such as heartburn, difficulty swallowing, abdominal pain, and gallstone complications that require surgical interventions. These patients may suffer from GERD, hiatal or paraesophageal hernia, achalasia, EGJ outlet obstruction, biliary colic, cholecystitis, and other conditions. Additionally, I treat patients who have obesity and suffer from associated metabolic syndrome. As part of Duke’s comprehensive weight loss program, I guide patients with obesity through a multimodal, multidisciplinary approach to care and provide surgical care. These operations include sleeve gastrectomy and Roux-en-Y gastric bypass, among others. I perform minimally invasive surgery when appropriate to allow patients to recover quickly and return to their normal lives.

My research is dedicated to reducing the burden of post-operative complications in patients who undergo surgery. I am aiming to accomplish this objective by developing a comprehensive digital data framework and applying advanced analytics, including Artificial Intelligence methodology to identify patients who are deviating from the normal care processes. This will enable us to provide timely interventions and utilize appropriate resources to help patients get back on the right track.
