About Me

As an oculoplastic surgeon, I treat children and adults with functional and cosmetic conditions affecting the eyelids, orbits and areas around the eyes. This includes the medical and surgical management of growths, infections and cancers; droopy or puffy upper and lower eyelids and eyebrows; misdirected eyelids or eyelashes; uncontrolled blinking or eyelid spasms; and facial wrinkles, among other conditions. I also perform eyelid reconstruction after injuries or skin cancer removal, as well as external dacryocystorhinostomy and other procedures to treat blocked tear drainage systems. I empower my patients and their family members to be involved in treatment decisions and never pressure them to undergo a surgery or treatment they do not want. I am a strong proponent of health and wellness, both for myself and my patients. Outside of work, you can often find me participating in a variety of sports, from sand volleyball to triathlons, or enjoying a hiking trip with my wonderful wife.

Ratings and Reviews

The ratings and reviews are based on patient responses to the overall clinician rating question from the survey. The question reads: “Using any number from 0 to 10, where 0 is the worst clinician possible and 10 is the best clinician possible, what number would you use to rate this clinician?” Responses are converted to a 5-point rating system and applied consistently to all clinicians. Learn more about our survey process. Patients who see some types of clinicians receive a different version of the patient satisfaction survey. Those results are not available on DukeHealth.org.

Clinical Focus and Research

My Research Interests

My research interests include incorporating new technologies to increase access to, and the efficiency of, eye care. I have worked towards implementing screening tools such as nonmydriatic fundus cameras in the emergency department and inpatient setting to streamline patient care. Our department also continues to pursue research opportunities in the management of thyroid eye disease to provide additional treatment options to our patients.
