About Me

My role as a psycho-oncologist is to support the oncologists, surgeons, radiation oncologists, and support staff at Duke Cancer Center as they provide excellent care to patients with cancer. It is a privilege to be part of the treatment team and to accompany patients and their families on their journey through a cancer diagnosis. Even if a patient has never needed a psychiatrist before, I understand that a cancer diagnosis and treatment can lead to challenging emotions. Together, we can explore and manage these emotions. In addition to providing supportive therapy and medication management, I advocate for my patients throughout their cancer experience. As Medical Director of the Psycho-Oncology Clinic, I believe teamwork is essential in caring for patients with cancer and encourage open communication with our patients.

Clinical Focus and Research

My Research Interests

While I treat adult patients of all ages who are managing a cancer diagnosis, the focus of my research and academic work is the Young Adult cancer patient population. The goal is to identify and address the challenges specific to patients ages 18-39. These can include maintaining relationships, meeting long-term academic or career goals, and learning self-advocacy. I have presented on topics like these at national conferences and am pursuing new therapy interventions to best support these young patients.
