My research focuses on improving outcomes for patients undergoing total hip and knee replacement. I study complications such as infection, stiffness, implant failure, and the need for revision surgery, with the goal of understanding why they occur and how they can be prevented or better treated. At Duke Health, I use our clinical research resources to translate these findings into better care and improved outcomes for my patients.

About Me
I am an orthopaedic surgeon with subspecialty fellowship training in hip and knee replacement and reconstruction. I treat patients with hip and knee arthritis and other degenerative conditions, including those seeking nonsurgical treatment, patients considering primary hip or knee replacement, and patients with painful or failing joint replacements who may require complex revision surgery. I chose adult reconstruction because I value the opportunity to build a close relationship with each patient and help them return to the activities that are important to them. I take a systematic approach to understanding the source of hip or knee pain and partner with my patients to develop a treatment plan tailored to their goals, whether that involves nonoperative care or surgery. When surgery is appropriate, I use a range of approaches and technologies—including anterior hip replacement, partial and total knee replacement, and robotic or technology-assisted joint replacement—based on each patient’s individual needs. Ultimately, my goal is to restore function and help my patients get back to doing the things they love.
