About Me

My path to orthopaedic surgery began on the lacrosse field, after sustaining a cartilage injury that led to an osteochondral allograft and multiple subsequent knee surgeries aimed at preserving my joint. That personal journey inspired my focus on cartilage restoration, joint preservation, and sports injury care. I specialize in treating lower extremity sports injures (knee, foot, and ankle) as well as early degenerative conditions using advanced techniques designed to maintain natural joint function and prevent arthritis. Having been through recovery myself, I understand the importance of clear communication, trust, and personalized care in helping patients return to full, active lives. My wife (a Duke OB/Gyn) and I still live a very active lifestyle centered around exercise and the outdoors, so I understand the desire of my patients to remain active and participating in what they love, whether that is hiking, pickle ball, or any number of other pursuits.

Clinical Focus and Research

My Research Interests

I study how to repair and restore damaged cartilage in the knee and ankle. My research focuses on improving surgical techniques, understanding how injuries heal, and developing new treatments to preserve joint health. By combining clinical outcomes research with advanced imaging and the basic science of cartilage, my goal is to help patients recover faster, move better, and avoid arthritis or joint replacement later in life.
