When you call to schedule a new patient appointment, you may be offered an appointment at the New Patient Access Clinic if your preferred clinic does not have timely availability.
At the New Patient Access Clinic, our team will conduct a complete medical history, request or review your medical records, refill medications, submit referrals to specialists, and order necessary lab work and imaging tests. We also ensure you are taking your medications appropriately and offer guidance on self-care. This information will be saved in your medical record for your new primary care provider to access. Your visit at the New Patient Access Clinic ensures there is no interruption in your care. This is especially important if you have a chronic condition like heart disease or diabetes or need urgent refills or referral orders.
Most future visits will take place with your long-term Duke Primary Care clinic. However, you may have follow-up visits at the New Patient Access Clinic under special circumstances.
Accepted Insurance
Duke Health contracts with most major health insurance carriers and transplant networks, including the ones listed below. Before scheduling your appointment, we strongly recommend you contact your insurance company to verify that the Duke Health location or provider you plan to visit is included in your network. Your insurance company will also be able to inform you of any co-payments, co–insurances, or deductibles that will be your responsibility. If you proceed in scheduling an appointment and your health insurance benefits do not participate with Duke, your out of pocket liability may be higher.
