Some insurance companies process bills with a deductible and coinsurance rather than as a co-pay as for an office visit. This may impact the amount of the bill you are responsible for after payment from your insurance plan. Duke Health Lake Norman Infusion offers intravenous (IV) administration of medications, fluids, and blood products into the bloodstream. We also administer injections under the skin or into the muscle. Our goal is to make you as comfortable as possible during your treatment. A physician referral is required to make an appointment.

Services

Our clinic is staffed by nurses experienced in administering IV infusions and injections for a variety of non-cancerous conditions. Chemotherapy is not offered at this clinic.

The nurses provide care for access ports, insert catheters, monitor vital signs, watch for side effects, and administer intravenous therapy. Examples include:

  • Antibiotics for severe infections
  • Blood and platelet transfusions
  • Biologic therapies for autoimmune disorders
  • IV fluids
  • IV steroids

During this time, we ensure your comfort and privacy in our large reclining chairs, offer warm blankets and lunch, when appropriate.

Intramuscular and subcutaneous injections administered here include:

  • Antivirals
  • Rabies injections
  • Procrit to treat anemia

Equipment

  • Blood may be drawn in the onsite lab
  • Infusions and medications are housed in the pharmacy

Insurance coverage for Duke Health Lake Norman providers and locations currently vary from the majority of other Duke Health providers and locations.
