Sunil Badami, MD

I decided to become a medical oncologist during my last year of medical school, drawn to the complex scientific challenges of cancer care and the meaningful relationships built with patients. My additional fellowship training in palliative care further shaped my perspective, deepening my understanding of the emotional impact of a cancer diagnosis and the importance of supporting patients and families at every stage of their journey. I recognize that a cancer diagnosis can be incredibly stressful—not only for patients, but also for their loved ones—so my approach combines evidence-based treatment with clear communication, thoughtful symptom management, and care that aligns with each patient’s individual goals. As a Duke physician, I am committed to expanding access to high-quality cancer care within the community, bringing the latest advances, including clinical trials, closer to home so patients can receive leading-edge treatment without unnecessary travel. Ultimately, my goal is to provide not only expert care, but also a steady, compassionate partnership throughout each patient’s cancer journey.
