ABOUT ME

I became interested in pelvic floor disorders because of the emphasis on improving the quality of life. For most pelvic floor disorders – bladder, bowel, sexual dysfunction, or vaginal bulge – there are usually multiple treatment options with different pros and cons. Because each woman is different, I tend to teach each patient about her own pelvic floor issues, and then we collaborate to develop a treatment plan that incorporates her specific goals. I am actively involved in research because I think that is the way that we will develop better treatment options for women. In my spare time, I love to cook, entertain friends, and travel with my husband and children.

MY RESEARCH INTERESTS

I research the bladder tissue changes that happen in women with overactive bladder. We hope to use this information to develop better treatment options. I also study the urinary microbiome (the healthy carpet of bacteria that live in the bladder). I am particularly interested in how these bacteria change in women with aging, and how these changes make women more prone to recurrent urinary tract infections.
