In medical school I helped conduct a study looking into urinary retention after gallbladder removal surgery. We looked at two different medications used to help patients wake up after surgery to see if one had a larger association with urinary retention, which can be an important factor in causing patients to stay in the hospital longer than anticipated and can contribute to urinary tract infections.

About Me
My journey in medicine began while working with my dad, a pharmacist, in the small South Texas town of Los Fresnos. I took great pride in supporting our community during the pandemic. Knowing I was helping care for people I had known since childhood made the work especially meaningful. I realized I wanted to do even more for the patients I served, so I decided to attend medical school. Although my dad was a little sad we no longer worked together, I know he is as proud as a parent can be. As a lifelong Texan, moving to North Carolina was a big change. I do not know where I would be without the support of my fiancée, Marie, and our two dogs, Daisy and Duke. We have found that Durham has the same Southern hospitality as home, and we are excited to be here for this next chapter of our lives. Practicing internal medicine and psychiatry allows me to provide whole-person care. Understanding the intersection of these two specialties offers a perspective that either field alone cannot. I strive to bring knowledge, empathy and humility to every patient I have the privilege to care for.
