About Me

I specialize in brain development and treat children with brain disorders. I have a particular interest in children with prenatal brain malformations, perinatal brain injury, cerebral palsy, and genetic and developmental brain disorders. It is incredibly scary for any family to be worried about their child's brain. My goal is to provide thoughtful, honest, compassionate care to guide families towards a realistic but hopeful understanding of their child's condition and available treatment options. Since I see patients at the beginning of their life's journey, my hope is that they will maximize their unique developmental potential. I aim to provide the support and resources at my disposal to help them do so.

Clinical Focus and Research

My Research Interests

I study the development of the cerebral cortex: the wrinkly surface of the brain responsible for complex behaviors like language and cognition. I investigate how circuits in the cortex form during normal pregnancy and infancy in order to then understand how they are changed after injury. Currently, I focus on the impact of perinatal hypoxic-ischemic injury, a brain injury that occurs in babies after a brief period without blood flow or oxygen in the brain. I aim to explain how injury might result in symptoms like seizures or cerebral palsy. My hope is to apply what I learn toward new therapies that could help with brain protection and recovery after injury.
