About Me

As a professional singer and voice teacher, I understand how important having a healthy, reliable voice can be to a person’s quality of life. I view the patient-provider relationship as that of partners in constant dialogue. My goal for each patient is to empower them with education and helpful tools that we explore together. I want my patients to eventually learn how to independently manage their vocal challenges. One of the most difficult aspects of a voice problem can be hopelessness - feeling there is nothing to be done about it. This is very rarely the case, and the relief that comes with finding a path forward can be transformational. I see myself as a consultant, counselor, and cheerleader for the patient during this process.

Ratings and Reviews

The Patient Rating score is an average of all responses to care provider related questions on our nationally-recognized Press Ganey Patient Satisfaction Survey. Learn more about our survey process. Responses are measured on a scale of 1 to 5 with 5 being the best score. Patients who see some types of providers receive a different version of the patient satisfaction survey. Those results are not available on DukeHealth.org.

Clinical Focus and Research

My Research Interests

My research interests include the singing voice and how to improve collaboration between singing teachers and clinical speech pathologists. Specifically, I have studied differences in how singing teachers and clinicians hear and describe disordered speaking voices. With my dual background as a clinician and singing teacher, I hope to improve communication between the two fields to make sure we are “speaking the same language” – to get better results for patients.
