About Me

I enjoy meeting and caring for patients with kidney disease or kidney problems. I know that the functions of the kidney and kidney disease are not commonly understood. I strive to communicate clearly and listen carefully in order to participate in shared-decision making with my patients. I recognize that every patient is so much more than their medical problems and have their own story, priorities, and community. My goal is to work with each patient to optimize kidney health in a way that is individualized to the context of their daily life. When I'm not at work, I enjoy traveling and spending time outside with my family!

Clinical Focus and Research

My Research Interests

My research occurs at the intersection of Nephrology and Global Health. I focus on Chronic Kidney Disease of Unknown etiology (CKDu), which largely occurs in young adults in agricultural communities in Central America and Southeast Asia. I am trying to find the cause of the disease so that we can eliminate the source and prevent disease.

Your insurance company will also be able to inform you of any co-payments, co–insurances, or deductibles that will be your responsibility. If you proceed in scheduling an appointment and your health insurance benefits do not participate with Duke, your out of pocket liability may be higher.
