What to Expect

You don’t have to be ready to quit forever before making an appointment. Whether your goal is to quit tobacco or nicotine, cut back, or simply learn more about your options, our team is here to help.

Your first appointment can be conducted in person or virtually and includes meeting with a doctor, physician assistant, or nurse practitioner who specializes in tobacco treatment. During the visit, we'll take time to get to know you, understand your tobacco or nicotine use, review your medical history, and discuss any previous quit attempts. We’ll also talk about your motivations for making a change—whether it’s improving your health, preparing for a medical procedure, saving money, supporting your family, or achieving another personal goal.

Together, we will create a personalized treatment plan to meet your needs and goals. It may include counseling, medication, or both.

During your care, you can expect to:

  • Receive a personalized quit plan
  • Learn strategies to manage cravings and withdrawal symptoms
  • Identify triggers and develop coping techniques
  • Explore medication options when appropriate
  • Receive ongoing support and coaching
  • Develop a plan for handling setbacks and staying on track

Our goal is to help you build the skills, confidence, and support needed to achieve lasting success. Whether this is your first attempt to quit or one of many, we will work with you every step of the way.

Treatment Options in the Smoking Cessation Program

Medications

Our treatment specialist may prescribe one or more medications to help you quit smoking or stop using other forms of tobacco. These include nicotine-replacement products (such as patches or gum) that help reduce your dependency on tobacco and prevent nicotine withdrawal. Prescription medications can help address tobacco use driven by routines, triggers, or stress. Others may address related concerns, such as gaining weight. Our flexible tobacco cessation program addresses your needs and goals.

Counseling

You can choose the counseling option that is right for you. We offer one-on-one sessions with licensed experts. You’ll discuss your progress as well as behavioral and social factors that contribute to tobacco use, and you’ll learn tactics to keep you on track. We also offer family counseling sessions, as your chances of success with quitting increase dramatically if your partner or loved ones also quit.

Mindfulness Training for Smokers

Licensed experts run our free, interactive group. They teach mindfulness skills to help you quit smoking, stop using e-cigarettes, or stop using other forms of tobacco. The group setting provides a community of other people working toward the same goal. This group has been shown to double success rates compared with other behavioral programs.
