About Me
My work is aimed at trying to understand how heart failure develops and how we can develop a new type of drug therapy for that condition. Heart failure happens to run in my family – I have a relative with the disease. In many ways, that has had an impact on what I’m doing. Duke provides a lot of cutting-edge care for people who suffer from congestive heart failure. We are a large transplant center and have expertise in the care of patients with advanced heart failure and for patients who need advanced therapies. We also have expertise in the research realm, which really provides a lot of insight into the care of patients. Duke is a world-class institution. I’m really lucky to work here and to be among a lot of folks who are bright and innovative and really interested in patient care.

The Patient Rating score is an average of all responses to care provider related questions on our nationally-recognized Press Ganey Patient Satisfaction Survey. Learn more about our survey process. Responses are measured on a scale of 1 to 5 with 5 being the best score. Patients who see some types of providers receive a different version of the patient satisfaction survey. Those results are not available on DukeHealth.org.

Clinical Focus and Research
My research interests pertain to how congestive heart failure develops at a molecular level. My work has focused on how scar tissue develops in the heart after it has been damaged by conditions such as hypertension or heart attacks. My goal is to translate basic discoveries made in animal models to the care of patients suffering from congestive heart failure.
