Duke Lupus Clinic - Clinic 1J

Open
Type:Duke University Hospital Outpatient Department
Hospital-based clinics are outpatient departments of an individual Duke hospital and have additional facility charges. Some insurance companies process bills with a deductible and coinsurance rather than as a co-pay as for an office visit. This may impact the amount of the bill you are responsible for after payment from your insurance plan. Check with your insurance company before your visit to determine what your responsibility will be.

Our lupus specialists diagnose, treat, and provide expert care to people living with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), more commonly known as lupus. We do comprehensive evaluations of people who suspect they have lupus, offer second opinions, and recommend treatment options. We also educate people and their families about this chronic condition. Our extensive involvement in research means you can participate in research opportunities to help us learn more about the disease, as well as clinical trials that test new lupus therapies.

Lupus Diagnosis and Treatment

Learn how we diagnose and treat lupus, and how we help you live with the autoimmune disease.

Lupus Clinic Specialists

Our specialized lupus clinic is staffed by board-certified rheumatologists. We work as a team to care for people with lupus and lupus-related autoimmune conditions such as:

  • Systemic lupus erythematosus
  • Cutaneous lupus erythematosus
  • Drug-induced lupus erythematosus
  • Undifferentiated connective tissue disease
  • Mixed connective tissue disease

We use a team approach to patient care, which means you may see any member of our team on the day of your appointment.

This approach ensures you get to know all our lupus specialists. If you need to be seen for an urgent, lupus-related condition such as a flare or if you are hospitalized, our specialists will already be familiar with your condition.

Onsite Pharmacy and Additional Support

Our onsite pharmacist and pharmacy technicians can provide medication counseling, help coordinate prior authorizations, help you apply for pharmacy assistance programs, and refill medications.

Our social worker can provide additional support for navigating the insurance process.

Duke Health contracts with most major health insurance carriers and transplant networks, including the ones listed below. Before scheduling your appointment, we strongly recommend you contact your insurance company to verify that the Duke Health location or provider you plan to visit is included in your network. Your insurance company will also be able to inform you of any co-payments, co–insurances, or deductibles that will be your responsibility. If you proceed in scheduling an appointment and your health insurance benefits do not participate with Duke, your out of pocket liability may be higher.
