Duke provides expert evaluation and treatment from a team of specialists from both gynecology and urology, in a comfortable and friendly environment.

This service treats all problems women may have related to their bladder or female organs. Specific conditions treated include:

  • Urinary incontinence
  • Voiding difficulties
  • Vaginal/pelvic wall prolapse
  • Vesicovaginal/rectovaginal fistula
  • Recurrent urinary infection
  • Fecal incontinence
  • Abnormalities of the urethra such as diverticulum
  • Vaginal mesh exposure or erosion

There are many different ways to manage each of these problems, and they should not be considered an automatic part of growing older nor as being uncorrectable.

At Duke, our physicians provide you with diagnostic and therapeutic options tailored to your needs. After consulting with one of our physicians, you will be able make an informed decision regarding your care plan.

Your basic evaluation may include:

  • Pelvic examination
  • Laboratory studies, including basic urine tests

Depending on your symptoms, your exam may also include studies such as:

  • Urodynamics
  • Cystoscopy
  • Defecography
  • Pelvic MRI
  • Anorectal manometry or ultrasound

Read a description of these and other tests

Upon review of the results of your evaluation we may recommend treatments including:

  • Behavioral therapy
  • Estrogen therapy
  • Minimally invasive surgery, including robotic surgery
  • Surgery
