About Me
I am a Neurologist with a special interest in Epilepsy. I diagnose and treat patients with epilepsy in clinic and acute neurological problems in the hospital. I take a personalized medicine approach which becomes important in difficult to control seizures. A teenager with newly diagnosed epilepsy starting college or a woman with epilepsy requiring guidance through pregnancy will have unique needs. At Duke Health, I am able to offer cutting edge diagnostic and therapeutic options to my patients ranging from medications to stereoEEG and device therapies such as deep brain stimulation, responsive neurostimulation, and vagus nerve stimulation. Unraveling the complexities of the brain is extremely fulfilling but we are yet to fully understand it’s intricacies. For me, this makes practicing as a neurologist a rewarding but also humbling experience. Knowing that the teenager I first diagnosed with epilepsy is now graduating college or seeing a healthy baby with my patient after follow up during pregnancy, is a gratifying sight. I want my patients to know that I care and to feel confident that they are being heard. At Duke Health, I work with a multidisciplinary team with the common goal of providing the best care for our patients.

Clinical Focus and Research
My patients with epilepsy have motivated me to be actively involved in clinical research. I have an interest in pre-surgical, drug and device based research studies. I am a biomedical engineer by training with a special interest in devices such as DBS, RNS, VNS as well as stereo-EEG. I have been fortunate to receive the “ American Clinical Neurophysiology Society’s Young Investigator Award” and the “ David Chiu Excellence in Stroke Research Award” for my research work. I strive to provide my patients not only the best treatment options available currently, but by participating in cutting edge medical research, I have the opportunity to continually improve care for patients with epilepsy.
