Duke's multidisciplinary pediatric nephrology program strives to promote optimal health among children with acute or chronic kidney disease -- largely by helping families and primary care physicians provide the most appropriate high-quality care in their homes and clinics.

Our team consists of pediatric nephrologists, radiologists, and nurses, as well as a pediatric dietitian and social worker.

We work closely with Duke’s pediatric urology and transplant programs to offer therapies that include medical management, hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, continuous renal replacement therapy, and kidney transplantation.

Experienced clinicians expertly diagnose and treat the complete spectrum of renal and hypertensive disorders in infants, children, and adolescents:

  • Urinary-tract abnormalities and infections
  • Renal failure
  • Hypertension
  • Electrolyte disorders
  • Congenital genitourinary anomalies
  • Glomerulonephritis and autoimmune glomerular diseases
  • Proteinuria and hematuria
  • Lupus nephritis
  • Fanconi syndrome
  • Collagen-vascular disease
  • Nephrotic syndrome
  • Hereditary glomerular diseases and other hereditary kidney diseases
  • Kidney stones

We also offer services such as:

  • Ambulatory blood-pressure monitoring
  • Management of dialysis and renal transplant patients
  • Counseling to families of fetuses diagnosed with renal abnormalities
  • A joint clinic with Duke's pediatric rheumatology program dedicated to expert, multidisciplinary care for lupus patients
