Duke's expert physicians offer Botox injections to eliminate the face’s dynamic wrinkles -- those wrinkles not caused by aging or sun exposure, but by years of facial movement, such as laughing, smiling, or frowning.

Botox (botulinum toxin) is a purified therapeutic agent that removes lines and creases in the upper part of the face by inactivating specific muscles that pull on the skin.

What Does Botox Do?

Treatment with Botox in the affected areas causes the underlying muscles to relax, giving the skin a smoother, more refreshed appearance.

Botox can remove frown lines, forehead creases, and crows feet; and in some cases offer relief to patients suffering from migraines.

Procedure Details

Botox injections are a simple, in-office procedure that typically take less than 10 minutes. The injections themselves take mere seconds, and no anesthesia is required. Best of all, you may return to work immediately after treatment.

Injections are targeted to the over-active muscles that are responsible for movement and expression in the problem areas.

Side Effects

Though it is unusual, you may experience some mild discomfort, bruising, or swelling at the injection site. These side effects are generally temporary, dissipating after a few minutes or hours.

How Long Does Botox Last?

While the full effects of the Botox may take several days to develop, you should see the results last anywhere from three to five months.
