WHERE I PROVIDE CARE
Profile
ABOUT ME

I am a doctor and researcher who focuses on female health issues. My area of clinical and research interest is premature delivery, particularly when a woman’s water bag breaks early in pregnancy. My goal is to better understand why this happens and to find ways to identify women who are at high risk for having their water bag break, and to help prevent that from happening. Growing up, I knew I wanted to do something in healthcare. I started out as a physician assistant before I went to medical school, but decided I needed more education to meet my career goals. I like being a doctor because it’s challenging to understand complex diseases and rewarding to make people feel better. My favorite part of my job is being in clinic and caring for women who need social and medical support. Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my husband and school-aged girls.

MY RESEARCH INTERESTS

I have spent my academic career focused on preterm birth, specifically premature rupture of membranes. We have learned that the fetal membranes are critical to maintaining a healthy pregnancy. I have focused on the role of progesterone in protecting fetal membranes as well as the importance of infection and inflammation in weakening the fetal membranes. I hope that we will discover key targets for therapy in patients at high risk for preterm birth.
