WHERE I PROVIDE CARE
Profile
ABOUT ME

My area of interest is infectious diseases in pregnancy and their impact on pregnancy outcomes. If you look at Duke, we’re a divergent group of high-risk pregnancy providers. Across the board, we have about every medical area covered, including genetic conditions, infectious diseases and medical complications – whatever the patient’s risk, it will be covered at Duke. For most pregnancies, regardless of their risk and regardless of what we find, we can expect a good outcome. What we really want to do is work with women, share the risk information, but also to have them feel good about the outcome. Even though they may have a high-risk pregnancy, we want them to have pregnancy care that is as stress-free and normal as possible, even in the setting of an at-risk pregnancy.

Clinical Focus and Research
MY RESEARCH INTERESTS

My research focuses on the prevention of maternal infection and premature birth. We are also examining characteristics of maternal immunization, including immune system response in both the mother and the fetus and hoping to establish that maternal immunization will protect the newborn from infection. Finally, we are aggressively investigating strategies to prevent post operative wound infection in patients post cesarean section.
