Profile
ABOUT ME

I first came to Duke University to become an electrical engineer. After I earned that degree, I wanted a career with a closer connection to others. I stayed at Duke to earn a medical degree. I am now the director of Duke’s pediatric ophthalmology fellowship program, widely regarded as one of the best in the country. I am a former chair of the American Board of Ophthalmology, former chair of the Ophthalmology Section of the American Academy of Pediatrics, and a past-president of the American Association of Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus (APPOS). I have also been honored with a lifetime achievement award. I am currently the editor-in-chief of the Journal of AAPOS. As Vice Dean of Education, I am responsible for overseeing the education program for the School of Medicine. I was also a strategist in the launching of Duke’s partnership with the National University of Singapore (NUS) for a sister medical school based on the Duke medical curriculum.
