About Me
I am a medical oncologist and professor of medicine in the Duke University School of Medicine. I am the associate director of breast cancer clinical research and co-director of the cardio-oncology program at Duke Health. My interest in the toxicities of cancer treatments, in particular, cardiotoxicity, led to the 2008 establishment of the first cardio-oncology clinic in Ottawa, Canada. I subsequently established the not-for-profit Canadian Cardiac Oncology Network (CCON) in 2011, an organization dedicated to learning how to deliver optimal cancer therapy without compromising cardiovascular health. In 2015, I launched the Global Cardio-Oncology Summit (GCOS), an annual meeting designed to bring health care providers from around the world together to learn about the potential cardiovascular impact of cancer therapies. As a faculty member at Duke University, I use my expertise to promote breast cancer clinical research to provide the best care for cancer patients and foster our cardio-oncology program.

Ratings and Reviews
The Patient Rating score is an average of all responses to care provider related questions on our nationally-recognized Press Ganey Patient Satisfaction Survey. Learn more about our survey process. Responses are measured on a scale of 1 to 5 with 5 being the best score. Patients who see some types of providers receive a different version of the patient satisfaction survey. Those results are not available on DukeHealth.org.

Clinical Focus and Research
My research over the last 20 years has focused on novel and emerging therapies for breast cancer as well as treatment-related toxicities including cardiotoxicity. I have led, as the principal investigator for Canada, a global phase III breast cancer trial, and I have been actively involved in steering committees at the International level. I have been a co-investigator of a number of investigator-initiated peer-reviewed funded studies and have been an active member of grant review boards including the Canadian Institute for Health Research (CIHR) and the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation (CBCF). At the national level, I served for several years as a member of the clinical guidance panel for breast cancer for the Pan Canadian Drug Review. At Duke Health, my research will focus on identifying patients who are at risk of experiencing cancer therapy-related to cardiac dysfunction as well as optimizing cardiac health in order to provide optimal cancer therapy.
