About Me

I specialize in treating spine conditions and enjoy the complexity and thoughtful attention to detail required in this field. I work with each patient to understand their symptoms and to provide a personalized and effective treatment plan. My priority is to restore activity and function through surgical treatments designed with the patient and their family's goals in mind. I treat a range of spinal conditions including cervical and lumbar disc herniations and stenosis, degenerative conditions of the neck and back, as well as large spinal deformity. When appropriate, minimally and less-invasive approaches are utilized.

Clinical Focus and Research
My Research Interests

I have previously studied immunologic aspects of disease, including arthritis, throughout my training, as well most recently focused on spine conditions such as cervical stenosis and outcomes research after lumbar spine surgery. Now at Duke, I aim to help establish a Duke Orthopaedic Spine Center outcomes research program to focus on optimizing patient outcomes. This would allow studying aspects of spine pathology and responses to different operative treatments that at present aren't well understood, with goals of better predicting and minimizing complications while improving patient satisfaction.
