WHERE I PROVIDE CARE
Profile
ABOUT ME

Duke has been in the forefront of heart and lung surgery for decades. There’s a consortium of experts here, both surgical and medical, who have been pioneers and on the cutting-edge of the technology. I like to get to know my patients and their families, and how their disease has been impacting their life and how their treatment is going to impact their life. That way I can offer them the best treatment not only to prolong their life but also to improve their quality of life. Over the past several years, we have expanded our ECMO program, a revolutionary therapy to treat the sickest of the sick – patients who otherwise would die in short order. We have reached hundreds of patients, halted their death spiral, and even have been able to reverse the underlying heart or lung failure problem or provide other therapies like a durable pump they can go home with or heart or lung transplantation. The best part of my job is when my patients come back to my clinic after surgery and I get to see that they are back to their usual lives but doing much better than they were beforehand. There’s no better thanks or fulfillment than that.
