Profile
ABOUT ME

I am a clinical speech pathologist who enjoys working with adult patients in both the inpatient and outpatient settings with communication and swallowing difficulties. Daily, I have the opportunity to see how communication and swallowing are vital to participation in our daily activities. I view the role of speech pathologists as helping patients remain active in what is important to them by helping them to communicate and swallow as effectively as possible. The best part about my job is working with patients and their families to develop a rehabilitation plan that helps them meet their personal goals. Since I started at Duke in 1998, I have been fortunate to have the opportunity to grow my professional and leadership skills. One of the most rewarding aspects of my job as Director of Speech Pathology is working closely with other speech pathologists, medical professionals, researchers, and administrators in building a strong speech pathology program. I began working at Duke early in my career and have chosen to stay because of the quality of clinical care, the forward-thinking leadership, and the remarkable team of people with whom I have the opportunity to work.
