Profile
ABOUT ME

The best part of my job is partnering with patients and their families to identify solutions to communication or swallowing problems that are interfering with their ability to live their best lives. I enjoy working with patients with Parkinson’s disease, and helping patients with high-level cognitive communication difficulties due to neurological conditions maintain or resume active roles in the community -- for example, returning to work. I consider therapy to be a success when my patients successfully apply the strategies and skills we have developed to real-life situations outside of the treatment room. Prior to joining Duke in 2011, I worked in both inpatient and outpatient settings in Virginia and California. I was pleased to be promoted to senior clinician in 2013. I am proud of my active role in speech and swallowing research initiatives through the Duke Motor Speech Lab, and I enjoy the balance between academic pursuits and patient care.
