About Me

I am a child and adolescent psychiatrist. I treat children, adolescents, college students, graduate students, and young adults. Some of the reasons a child would come to see me are because of obsessional traits, attention deficit problems, or significant anxiety. I try to understand the causes of those and deal with them through understanding, talking, patience, and sometimes medication. With adolescents and young adults, a wide variety of problems can emerge, including depression, acting-out behaviors, drug or alcohol abuse, and relationship issues. When I meet with a patient I try to draw them out about who they are and what brought them to me; learn about their background, their strengths, and what it is they want to do with their lives. I use medicine a little more sparingly than many psychiatrists. I certainly do prescribe medication, and medication now is both very safe and very effective, but I still use it probably more sparingly than other psychiatrists.
