About Me

As a rheumatologist, I care for patients with a variety of rheumatologic conditions, but am particularly interested in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and inflammatory myositis. I was drawn to the field of rheumatology because of the complex, multi-system nature of autoimmune diseases and the many exciting advances in immune therapies. Rheumatology is a field where the most important part of my visit is careful listening and examination of my patients to decipher which symptoms are important diagnostic clues. Most of all, I love rheumatology because it is a specialty which allows for long-lasting patient relationships. As Director of the Duke Lupus Clinic, I work alongside an exceptional group of physicians, nurses, pharmacists, students, research assistants and staff. Together, our goal is to provide compassionate, comprehensive and state-of-the-art care for our patients who suffer from lupus and lupus related conditions. In addition, I participate in research with the goal of improving the understanding and treatment of lupus. In whatever time is left, I enjoy hiking and biking in the great outdoors and spending time with my husband and two young children.

Ratings and Reviews

The Patient Rating score is an average of all responses to care provider related questions on our nationally-recognized Press Ganey Patient Satisfaction Survey. Learn more about our survey process. Responses are measured on a scale of 1 to 5 with 5 being the best score. Patients who see some types of providers receive a different version of the patient satisfaction survey. Those results are not available on DukeHealth.org.

Clinical Focus and Research

My Research Interests

I am involved in lupus clinical and translational research. My clinical research includes lupus registries which gather information regarding patient symptoms, outcomes, and laboratory data.  I am an investigator for lupus specific clinical trials. The goal of our clinical trials program is to improve lupus treatment by expanding therapeutic options and providing access to novel medications.  Finally, I maintain active collaborations with translational laboratory scientists focused on better understanding the molecular causes of lupus.
