About Me
I am a cardiologist trained in cardiovascular medicine, advanced heart failure/transplant cardiology, and critical care medicine. I help direct both the mechanical circulatory support and durable left ventricular assist device programs, as well as the cardiac intensive care unit. I am passionate about finding ways to improve the care, outcomes, and quality of life for patients with end-stage heart disease and critical illness. While treating patients, I try to blend creativity, innovation, and a touch of humor with a practical approach to medicine. It is a privilege to work with patients and their families, a unique gift that I take very seriously. I have a wonderful family, several children and a brilliant wife. They are my greatest sources of joy. I am also a sports and music fanatic.

The Patient Rating score is an average of all responses to care provider related questions on our nationally-recognized Press Ganey Patient Satisfaction Survey. Learn more about our survey process. Responses are measured on a scale of 1 to 5 with 5 being the best score. Patients who see some types of providers receive a different version of the patient satisfaction survey. Those results are not available on DukeHealth.org.

Clinical Focus and Research
My research focuses on end-stage heart failure and critically ill patient populations. My goal is to identify and test strategies for improving patient outcomes and quality of life, particularly for those individuals with durable left ventricular assist devices and for those who require cardiovascular critical care due to acute illness.
