About Me

As an oculoplastic surgeon I am fortunate to have expertise in both eye and facial plastic surgery. My training allows me to provide my patients with the surgical and nonsurgical cosmetic and reconstructive care of the eye and face. I derive great satisfaction from the ability to improve both vision and appearance. Therefore, I enjoy performing facial rejuvenation procedures as well as reconstructive surgery following cancer removal, trauma or congenital defects. I believe that ethical and compassionate patient care is just as important as surgical competence to achieving the best possible outcomes. Prior to joining the faculty at Duke, I served as a director of oculofacial surgery at the University of South Florida (USF) in Tampa. While at USF, I had the privilege of performing more than five thousand procedures involving eyelids, orbit, and face. I was selected as one of the top ten professionals in the Tampa Bay area by the South Tampa Magazine for my professional accomplishments. I also enjoy sports and was fortunate enough to have worked as one of the team doctors for the Tampa Bay Lightning hockey team. Outside of medicine, my main passion is my family, a tremendous source of happiness and support.

My Research Interests

My research interests involve developing novel eyelid and orbital reconstructive procedures and corneal neurotization, where we are able to transfer sensory nerves from underneath the scalp to the cornea for patients with neurotrophic keratopathy (a blinding disease with absent or decreased corneal sensation). Corneal neurotization has been a revolutionary approach to restoring vision in patients with neurotrophic corneal disease.
