WHERE I PROVIDE CARE
Profile
ABOUT ME

I am a plastic surgeon who performs many different reconstructive and cosmetic surgeries, including incisional and ventral hernia repair and tummy tucks. I consider myself a people person, but enjoy the focus that it takes to work in an operating room. I also like thinking about problems, working with my hands and seeing immediate results. Plastic surgery provides all of these benefits, plus the chance to perform a wide range of procedures as part of a team. When I see patients, I like to talk to them and teach them about their problems. Then, we talk about the pros and cons of different treatment options. I give advice based on what I feel might be best for each patient and explain why I feel that solution is right for him or her. Ultimately, the decision is up to the patient. However, I enjoy being invested in their decision and helping patients arrive at the answer that is best for them.

MY RESEARCH INTERESTS

I am an expert in wound healing and abdominal wall repair and am the Director of Plastic Surgery Research at Duke. Working with a diverse team of mechanical and textile engineers, I have invented a novel hernia mesh that overcomes the five common failure modes of current hernia mesh. I am in the process of translating the technology from the bench to the clinic to reduce hernias and treat diastasis in patients.
