WHERE I PROVIDE CARE
Profile
ABOUT ME

I have been enamored with surgery and critical care since medical school, and I feel very lucky that I can practice both at one of the world’s best hospitals. I truly enjoy helping patients get better quickly by offering the surgical and/or critical care they need. I treat a variety of surgical and critical care conditions but particularly focus on intra-abdominal pathology, complex hernia cases, gallbladder disease, soft tissue masses, and diverticulitis. Along with my clinical duties, I conduct cutting-edge research in the field of pulmonary inflammation, studying the molecular pathways that lead to deadly acute respiratory distress syndrome. I also help develop practice guidelines for many surgeons all over the world in the field of trauma and acute care surgery. I also study how to optimize resuscitation in trauma and critical illness, the long-term effects of trauma, methods of complex hernia reconstruction, and aspects of gallbladder disease.

MY RESEARCH INTERESTS

I have published over 40 peer-reviewed research publications and 15 textbook chapters in the field of pulmonary inflammation (Acute Lung Injury/ARDS), trauma resuscitation and outcomes, and common acute care surgery conditions, such as diverticulitis, abdominal hernias, gallbladder disease). I have given over 100 presentations at competitive national and international conferences, and I am frequently invited to prestigious meetings to discuss other people’s research work. My goal is to shed light on the pathways that lead to the deadly acute respiratory distress syndrome and hope to help save thousands of lives in the future.
