WHERE I PROVIDE CARE
Profile
ABOUT ME

I enjoy the diversity of hand surgery, managing conditions from the elbow to the fingertips. I have particular interests in nerve repair and reconstruction (including brachial plexus injury, peripheral nerve injury and compression neuropathies), tendon injuries, Dupuytren’s contracture and pediatric/congenital upper extremity conditions. I have an extensive background caring for athletes at all levels, including youth teams, professional athletes, athletes at two Olympic Games and the weekend warrior. Each condition is unique and I strive to ensure that the evaluation and treatment process is both engaging and educational for patients and families. Mentoring Duke students, residents and hand surgery fellows inspires me to come to work each day. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my wife and three daughters – pursuing activities such as golf, tennis, biking, sailing and skiing. I am excited to go to work each day as a rest from keeping up with my family!

MY RESEARCH INTERESTS

My research interests reflect the challenges of our diverse specialty. I have been involved in developing advanced programs for training our next generation of leaders in orthopaedic and hand surgery and am interested in research related to this educational process. I have extensive experience in clinical and basic scientific research in nerve repair and regeneration, tendon repair and reconstruction, wrist injuries, compartment syndrome and upper extremity anatomy. We are fortunate at Duke Orthopedics to have resources available to tackle many challenging questions in our field - ultimately to improve the outcomes and the experiences of our patients.
