About Me

My research on obesity prevention and psychosocial contexts of health helps my clinical care, and my clinical care informs my research. I love spending time with patients and their families and figuring out what makes them tick. All families have struggles but some have the deck of cards stacked against them and I went into medicine to find ways to help them in particular. I have two boys of my own and a husband who is a sociologist. I love spending time with my family, going to movies, and doing crafts.

Clinical Focus and Research
My Research Interests

I have done a lot of research to try and figure out the best ways to prevent and treat obesity, especially in primary care. I have also done research to determine the environmental cues (like children's movies or billboards) to overeat or eat in less healthy ways. Finally, I have done a lot of research on "social determinants of health" to determine ways in which our psychosocial lives (race/ethnicity, income, gender, education) affects our health. I have had many NIH grants and publications in these areas. I also really enjoy mentoring and teaching the next generation how to do clinically-relevant research.
