About Me

My path in medicine began in research but has become entirely patient-focused over time. I began my career as a trained organic chemist. I worked in drug design for Genentech for years, bringing a drug candidate molecule into human trials. This experience taught me the benefits and the limitations of modern drugs. I honed my knowledge of how the human body works during my PhD at Harvard, which focused on the molecular details inside of cells. I then began expanding upon this base of knowledge, learning about the genetic differences in people that are responsible for our health. I did this work as a Postdoctoral Fellow at Stanford. I wanted to work directly with patients so I attended University of Michigan Medical School on a full-ride scholarship as a Dean's Scholar. I began residency in internal medicine at Duke to become an excellent clinician and provide the best care I can to the patients I see. I strive to be an empathetic listener who addresses patient concerns and helps them find solutions based on the best information available. I think my scientific background gives me special insight into how diseases work and how to best cure them.

Clinical Focus and Research
My Research Interests

Originally my research interests focused on leveraging my organic chemistry training to address unmet needs in medicine. I have taken on increasingly broad projects ranging from cardiovascular genetics to health care policy in underserved communities. My goal in the future is to identify problems that affect my patient community directly and work on those issues.
