About Me
I have been working with people with voice disorders for over 15 years, and find it incredibly rewarding to help patients get their voices back. After all, what's more important than communication? We often take the voice for granted, but it's really central to who we are and how we connect with the world. It's so important to have a voice and to make our voices heard. My particular interest is working with people for whom voice is an essential tool of the trade, including teachers, clergy, attorneys, and telemarketers, and I have presented on voice concerns around the country and internationally. My advanced training in voice includes study at the Summer Vocology Institute at the National Center for Voice and Speech. I am also member of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, as well as an avid choral singer. I have been singing with the Choral Society of Durham for more than 20 years.

The Patient Rating score is an average of all responses to care provider related questions on our nationally-recognized Press Ganey Patient Satisfaction Survey. Learn more about our survey process. Responses are measured on a scale of 1 to 5 with 5 being the best score. Patients who see some types of providers receive a different version of the patient satisfaction survey. Those results are not available on DukeHealth.org.

Clinical Focus and Research
I have completed a study on the prevalence of vocal fry in successful American business women, and found that it is more prevalent in young women. In fact, vocal fry is found in languages around the world, and in America is considered a social marker for young women.
