WHERE I PROVIDE CARE
Profile
ABOUT ME

My arrival at a career in medicine was through an unconventional course. A degree in studio arts was highlighted by a focus in furniture making through use of reclaimed materials and the realization that I loved working with my hands. The history of each reclaimed piece of material revealed unique opportunities for creative reuse and artistic expression. While working with objects was satisfying in an artistic way, it was not fulfilling on a deeper, more human level -- a career as a health care provider has changed that. Exposure to a medical career was formed by my father's public service as a firefighter and EMS volunteer, my mother as an RN and later, my own experience as an EMT. I found that pursuing a career in surgery provided the same satisfaction that piqued my creative interests in furniture making. Although arrival at this career may have been unconventional for me, I have found that serving as a surgical physician assistant provides the essential benefit of making priceless connections with patients in the perioperative environment.
