Experiencing Mindfulness for Duke Women’s Cancer Care Raleigh Patients and Their Caregivers (Virtual Event)
Description
Mindfulness can be a powerful tool to reduce stress and improve a patient’s outlook after being diagnosed with cancer.
Every Thursday from noon to 1:00 pm, Duke Integrative Medicine and Duke Women’s Cancer Care Raleigh will partner to host free, online mindfulness-based stress reduction classes for our patients and their caregivers. These mindfulness sessions will allow participants to practice present moment awareness, deep relaxation, and gentle movement. Through the use of these techniques, our patients and their caregivers will learn to discover and observe more deeply their reactions to life’s stressors.
Those who regularly participate could experience improvements in pain levels and develop skills to better cope with pain that may not go away. Most people also report an increased ability to relax, greater enthusiasm for life, improved self-esteem, and increased ability to cope more effectively with stressful situations. This program is funded by the Duke Raleigh Hospital Guild.
