Duke Cancer Institute, in partnership with the Thyroid Cancer Association of NC, will host its 1st Annual Thyroid Cancer Awareness Month event to promote awareness for early detection, education and survivorship for thyroid cancer patients and caregivers. Event Topics Include: What are the surgical options/best management for thyroid cancer? TSH suppression - why, how long, impacts on long-term health re cardiac or bone loss Thyroid hormone replacement - side effects (fatigue, weight gain, brain fog) and what can be done to help when you are facing these issues Guidelines - what do they say regarding my situation and how are they changing in practice Presenters: Dr. Randall Scheri, MD Associate Professor of Surgery Program Director, Endocrine Neoplasia Program, Duke Cancer Institute Dr. Jennifer Perkins, MD, MBA Associate Professor of Medicine, Division of Endocrinology, Duke University Health System Kathryn Wall Facilitator, ThyCa Raleigh Thyroid Cancer Support Group Volunteer, ThyCa: Thyroid Cancer Survivors Association Inc Parking is at the Duke Medicine Circle Garage at 40 Duke Medicine Circle, Durham, NC 27710. Event held in the front atrium. A light breakfast (fruit, pastries, etc) and beverages (coffee, water, juice) will be provided.
